2019 Short Story Contest Announcement
Writers, Opportunities Abound!
In 2019, we will continue to hold monthly short story contests. Each month we will have three winning stories from the following categories:
Flash Fiction: 500 words max (monthly, ongoing)
Short Fiction: 1500 words max (monthly, ongoing)
Long Short Fiction: 3000 words max (monthly, ongoing)
Poetry (periodically; we’ll announce)
Plays (one act; periodically; we’ll announce)
All submissions must continue to come via Submittable (see link below) with an $8 submission fee;
In order to award and publish more writers, the prize for winners will be $25 per story/play/poem.
The submission fee allows us to pay winners and also produce the anthology.
We want to publish as many writers as possible. We will be in super anthology-creation mode in 2019. In addition to the fiction anthologies — we published our first in July of 2018 which included 21 writers who won our short story contests in 2016 and 2017; our second anthology will come out in early 2019 and will contain all the 2018 winning writers — we are calling for submissions for non-fiction stories on inspirational themes.
Our non-fiction anthologies are a separate entity from our contests. The anthologies will be comprised of authors who provide a 500-word writing sample as an application to submit a 5,000-word story. Each anthology will comprise 10 stories. The fee for publication will include all publishing expenses, and authors will have the opportunity to purchase books at a significant discount which they can then sell on their own for the cover price. To learn more about this, please check out our Submissions page.
