WATCHING A SPECTACULAR SHOW AND MEETING ITS LEGENDARY CREATOR INSPIRE A POWERFUL MESSAGE ABOUT MAKING YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE!

By ELIZABETH

Whether the music was eliciting bliss or an abyss of sadness, listening to it prompted me to marvel at the creative genius of composer Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, recipient of seven Tonys, three Grammys, the Grammy Legend Award, an Academy Award, and knighthood from Queen Elizabeth!

It is absolutely enchanting to indulge his magical orchestration of soul-stirring lyrics and melodies that contrast and fuse in a delicious dance in my ears.  Many times his music has made me stop singing along and instead sit silently in awe at how it seems to tickle every cell in my body.

So imagine my absolute thrill when I actually met Lord Webber!

"CAN WE STOP? I THINK I'M GOING TO THROW UP."

By CATHERINE

Newton's First Law of Motion states that a body at rest will remain at rest unless an outside force acts on it, and a body in motion at a constant velocity will remain in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an outside force.

What's the outside force that got me out of bed? Must've been me. What's the outside force that will keep me doing this? Gonna have to be me.

SOLAR ECLIPSE TRIGGERS SEISMIC SHIFT FOR SPIRITUALITY, CREATIVITY, AND PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION

By ELIZABETH

ECLIPSE: a loss of significance, power, or prominence in relation to another person or thing.

Today, anything that has held me back in the past is undergoing a radical loss of significance, power, or prominence in relation to the beautiful, badass butterfly who is bursting out of the chrysalis whose confining darkness prepares it to soar to immeasurable heights.

I have been evaluating my strengths and weaknesses, and writing out a new version of how I’d rather be.  I am using the PowerJournal techniques that I devised and will soon begin teaching with Catherine.  I have been looking in the proverbial mirror to critique what’s working and what’s not in the way I spend the precious moments of this lifetime.  And the revelations reflecting back at me, in addition to deep meditation, are helping me strategize my infinite potential on every level.

MAGIC MOMENTS MAKE LIFE SPARKLE

“…the sun sparkled on the light chop of waves as if God had sprinkled a million diamonds over Lake St. Clair.”

—   Husbands, Incorporated by Elizabeth Ann Atkins

By ELIZABETH

This morning, that image reflected back at me when I stopped during a bike ride to meditate and pray beside the lake.

For long, amazing moments, I marveled at the sun sparkling on the water, which danced to the tune of a gentle breeze and caressed the jagged rocks.  My gaze followed the trail of sparkles all the way to the edge of the world, where the sun was making a silvery puddle on the horizon.

WEIGHT WATCHERS LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP AT YOUR SERVICE!

By CATHERINE

I am 4.4 pounds overweight. Winter's comfort and stress eating and a general inconsistency in movement caused a bunch of extra pounds to grab onto my body.

Some still haven't let go -- even though it's July!

Just the other day I was thinking what a great spokesperson and role model Oprah Winfrey is for Weight Watchers. Despite being more personally and professionally successful than some small nations, at her core, she's just one of us, reminding us that we are all connected by our struggles and successes.

DANCING TO THE TUNE OF SUMMER SUNSHINE BLISS

By ELIZABETH

A baby bunny... a male and female cardinal... a big white cat... a chipmunk... a blue jay.

All these friendly critters fluttered and scampered around me while doing yoga in the warm summer sunshine.

Mother Nature provided the soundtrack of chirping birds, and the soft breeze rustling in the treetops, along with my favorite Bill Withers song, Steppin' Right Along.  It’s the most soul-stirring rendition of The Lord’s Prayer — and it made me twirl in a joyful dance all by my damn self.

SWEET 16 CRANIOTOMY: JUNE 12, 2017

By CATHERINE

Hard to believe it's been 16 years since my neurosurgeon removed a tumor from the the lining of my brain. A month earlier, the meningioma reared its head by causing a grand mal seizure in Blockbuster video.

Those abnormal cells and were putting pressure on my parasagittal sinus vein (the big one). In the end, they were no match for Dr. Fleming

IMPROVISE WHEN YOU GRAB THE WRONG SPICE!

By CATHERINE

I am a spice nut, and yes my spices are arranged alphabetically on a prominent shelf in my kitchen.

I keep the cinnamon, ground cloves, and nutmeg on a separate shelf -- away from the parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.

This morning, however, the cumin, having made its way to the wrong spot on the wrong shelf, landed in my hand and performed a sprinkling dance over my oatmeal.

ZEN AND THE ART OF DENTAL HYGIENE

By CATHERINE

Everything is transient.  I read that in 2005 on page 18 of The Three Pillars of Zen.

Nowhere better epitomizes this than the dreaded dentist’s chair.

The other day, Regina, my hygienist, made her way around my mouth, as I tried to simultaneously focus on being present with the cleaning she was administering and not getting caught up in the discomfort.

BROTHERS AND THERAPY

By ALLEN ALLENSWORTH IV

Guest Blogger

People respond to adversity in a lot of ways. Some people try to find themselves. Others turn to God. Still others turn to sex, drugs, and/or rock and roll. If you’re a black man, you have a lot of options, but finding yourself isn’t one of them. Especially if it means going to therapy. Black men may go to church or the titty bar, but we don’t go to therapy.  I don’t mean court-ordered counseling or your cousin over a drink (probably at the titty bar). I don’t mean couple’s counseling. I mean one-on-one with a clinically trained, board certified, MD-having, drug-prescribing psychiatrist.

GRATITUDE IS OUR SAVING GRACE

by ELIZABETH

Yesterday, something happened that knocked me off center.  It triggered a vicious whirlpool of worries that sucked at my energy, my peace, my joy, my concentration.

This was infuriating because I wanted to spend the entire day writing with turbo-charged mental and physical stamina.

But suddenly all I wanted to do was go to sleep.

Or cry.

“You have to send love to the situation,” Catherine said.  “Negativity only makes it worse.  Just concentrate on sending positive energy to resolve it.”

She was telling me what I already knew — and do — most of the time.

MEDITATION IS A MAGICAL ELIXIR FOR PEACE, SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT, CREATIVITY, BETTER HEALTH, AND MUCH MORE

by ELIZABETH

My brain was a cyclone, spinning over too many things at once.

Tension gripped my muscles.

So, as I do most days, I did yoga in my living room — usually The Five Tibetans or a Kundalini routine with Maya Fiennes.

Yoga opens the chakras, boosts intuition, and elevates me to high-frequency channels to crystal-clear meditation.

So, after the exhilarating, body-soothing movements of yoga, I lay on the couch under a plush blanket, cover my eyes, listen to sonic driver drumming music, and slip into a theta brainwave state.

NUTRIBULLET Rx IS POWERFUL PRESCRIPTION FOR YOUR BEST HEALTH!

by ELIZABETH

Bigger and better!

That’s the verdict on my new NutriBullet Rx.

It replaced my regular NutriBullet after it konked out earlier this month.

As I wrote in a recent post, I panicked during NutriBullet breakdown, because I’ve been drinking two kale smoothies every day for years!  This nutritional blast fuels my energy every day to write, work out, and stay super healthy.

It’s not something I ever want to skip.

But, turns out, the busted blender was a blessing in disguise.

DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING!

by ELIZABETH

“Come on, Elizabeth, dance with us,” my cousins called from the dance floor.

“No, that’s okay right now,” I said, not budging from my chair.  “Maybe later.”

Maybe not.

Tears stung my eyes.

I dashed outside to a terrace overlooking the mountains of Kentucky.  Never mind the signs warning of bears lurking in the pitch-black woods all around me.

Deep down, I was so sad.

GETTING HEALTHY?  HAVE A BACK UP PLAN!

by ELIZABETH

I drink two kale smoothies every day.  One in the morning, one in the evening.

They give me an energy buzz for writing and working out and feeling great.  They keep me super healthy – I never get sick.  They make my skin look amazing and clear.

I’ve been drinking them for years.

It’s the first thing I do in the morning.

Eggs: Taking Another Non-GMO Step

By CATHERINE

When we were little, Aunt Ann used to take us to the Egg Lady and her eggs were the best!

All these years later, I am in the habit of simply just buying eggs. After eating an omelet recently, I sent an email to the producer of said eggs asking if they were GMO free.

His first line had me breathing a sigh of relief: All fresh eggs are non-GMO.

His second line was both straightforward and thoroughly confusing: The laying hens that produce Fresh Eggs do consume GMO grains because most of the corn and soy beans produced in the US are GMO. There is, however, no GMO detectable in a fresh egg.

In the words of Kevin Hart, “Wait. What?”

Smoothie So Good

By CATHERINE

I am a smoothie person. My sister is a green drink person. This is one of the many examples why we think we’re twins separated at birth by a year and six days. Externally, we are like day and night—she’s tall and blonde; I’m short and brunette; she loves the hustle-bustle of the city and I love that my state ranks 45th in population density. Yet at our core, we are unmistakably identical.

I found an inspiring list of ingredients from Detox Diet Week. I must admit that as a lifetime member of Weight Watchers, when I see the word diet, I run the other way. A diet is unnatural for me; it’s a four-letter word that has led me down many restricted, all-or-nothing paths. However, this morning I followed the link.
